Elderly Couple in their 80s stuck in vehicle in Gallinas Canyon near the campground due to heavy flooding in the area. Women has handicap and unable to get out of vehicle. Husband is mobile and able to go from cabin to car to bring water. Vehicle does have enough gas to keep them warm all night. National Guard assisted in evacuation of subjects. ASAR was on standby for support.

Male hunter on horseback who had not been seen for approximately 24 hours. Other members of the group had searched the previous day. Subject made his way back to camp 3.5 hrs from the trailhead, so it took some time for the search to be concluded. ASAR on standby for medical support.

Holiday Mesa Incident

Token Adams, the engine captain on a Jemez Ranger District engine has been missing since friday August 30th. The last communication from Token was received on Friday afternoon from Holiday Mesa. He and other firefighters from the Ranger District were responding to a smoke report and searching for the 25-acre School House Fire located near School House Mesa. Despite the NM Search and Rescue grid pattern being used by the professional and dedicated personnel on the incident, search efforts have not been successful.

ASAR joined Philmont SAR, Santa Fe SAR, and Taos SAR in litter evacuating a hiker with an ankle injury during a group outing near Latir Lakes, northeast of Questa.

Overdue Taos Box Kayakers

Overdue Taos Box Kayakers

Two novice kayakers in over their heads abandoned their boats shortly into their river trip in the Taos Box, and attempted to walk out. They were discovered the next day by the daughter of one kayaker, and escorted out by SAR teams— dehydrated, hungry, and tired, but otherwise no worse for wear. ASAR played a critical medical role in assessing and transporting the subjects.

15 Year Old Stranded Hikers near Tierra Amarilla

A couple of 15 yr old hikers stranded at cabin near Tierra Amarilla. Female hiker had a sprained ankle and male hiker was asthmatic. Cabin located approximately 3 miles from IC on snowy terrain. Call for ground pounders with snowhoes and sked, plus medical resources. Male subject ended up being rescued by snow mobile and female hiker by helicopter.

3/8/13 White Rock mission: first call out 11:58 PM. Missing hiker had been out for 18 hours and last contact was with her boyfriend (16 hours prior). First IB was at the station 3 firehouse in White Rock.  2 ASAR responders. 3 teams in field for first operational period. Overnight, a cell phone ping was received and a rough idea of the subject’s location was identified. The first operational period had a small coordination team and went rather smoothly. Second period began in the morning and IB was moved to Bandelier.

Called out to second-operational ground search in the Valle Vidal area for a single, male subject.  Ground pounders, K9 teams, ATVs, Horses, local horse-packers, and friends all contributed to search.  Subject was successfully found by oilfield pumper in the Vermejo Park gas field, 12 miles north of the Point Last Seen.

Rowe Mesa Search

Female subject missing on Rowe Mesa since Feb 14th.  Male subject was brought into St. Vincent's on the 17th and treated for exposure and reported girlfriend was also missing.  Conflicting reports exist regarding circumstances.  Atalaya Search and Rescue deployed on the First Operational Period and conducted line, area, and sign-cutting assignments alongside Santa Fe SAR and Sandia Rescue Dogs.  The First Operational Period was called to an end at 5am with a Second Operational Period resuming the morning of the 18th.
